About Us

Welcome to the Wintergreen Carvings and Wood Art website. I recently retired from a 30 year law enforcement career and, with the support of my wife, Deirdre, and family; decided to pursue my passion for chainsaw carving and launch a new business and website in April 2022. We are located in the north-central rural area of Rhode Island. Northern Rhode Island, with its rolling hills, forests, and signature reservoirs, provides an extraordinary habitat for an array of wildlife. Nature is the inspiration for my carvings. I immerse myself in this environment and along with my trusty chainsaws and tools, create my work—What a canvas!

Logs, species and from where:

My carvings mostly begin from whole logs. Depending of the size and subject of the sculpture, I will find an appropriately sized log and cut off the piece I need to begin. I use wood species that is available in my area; pine, oak, maple, and ash are plentiful. Less abundant cedar is great if i can get it. Pine is my “go to” since it carves nicely and is less dense, thus less weight, than the hardwoods. I do not cut live trees for my carvings. I use locally sourced logs- which have been previously harvested due to storm damage or other natural reasons. For all the right reasons, I do not cut growing trees for my sculptures.

Our Mission

Create

In 1878, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford penned the popular phrase; “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Art in its various forms and mediums is viewed by everyone through their own eyes and interpretations of beauty. It is my mission to “create” beautiful sculptures and art that resonates with my clients. It is my goal then, to take this repurposed wood and carve sculptures to be enjoyed for years to come. Our pieces are one of a kind. No two sculptures are exactly alike, mass produced or duplicated. Each piece has its own wood grain, style, and personality. As you view my sculptures and art, see if a piece speaks to you. Our gallery will continue to grow, kindly check back regularly

Philanthropy

We Give Back

When my wife and I were discussing this business, we made it a priority to give back to causes we care deeply about. Therefore, our business model prescribes donating a portion of proceeds from each sale to:I

The Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island. Like many families, we had members of our family suffer with this devastating, incurable disease. Let’s find a cure!!!

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island. The charity’s focus is to protect the forests and natural habitat of birds and wildlife. Deforestation is a problem and concern worldwide. We try to do our small part to help protect the environment, natural resources and wildlife habitat.

I invite you to look at my sculptures. If you are interested in your own one-of-a-kind sculpture, contact me to discuss your idea and to get a quote. I am happy to discuss and create something that supports your vision and your budget. Do not hesitate to contact me……I am here. If you opt to place an order or commission a large carving, I will keep you apprised of my progress and when the carving will be completed (local delivery/pick-up or shipment). Thank you.
